The Beginning
This blog will chronicle my FOCUS art exhibit journey. It all began when applying for a student juried exhibit, I submitted two pieces of artwork. One was a sculpture I was inspired to create after reading "Winter in the Blood", by James Welch. This was selected for the exhibit for display from April 3 to May 3, 2015 at the Memorial Union, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. This piece received an exhibition merit award (see image below). Motivated by this acceptance and award, I decided to try for an art grant.
The other piece, that didn't make it in the exhibit, inspired me to further develop this concept work into a series. With encouragement from the exhibit coordinator and one of my instructors, I filled out a grant request for the FOCUS grant offered from ISU to qualifying students. The proposal was accepted and I will be developing a series for exhibit next spring 2016. My inspiration piece, "Bats in Her Belfry", that I shared with the grant committee is a simplified version of what I intend to create for the exhibit (see image above). The exhibit will be named, "It’s All in Our Heads, Idioms Involving the Head, Mind and Thought in Relation to the Days of the Week."
